April 8, 2026 Meeting

The minutes describe this as a kickoff meeting for the next phase of Springfield Township’s review of the Levy/Burroughs mining application. Most of the discussion focused on process, including consultant roles, Planning Commission coordination, public updates, escrow procedures, and how review materials would move forward. The meeting did not appear to introduce major new technical findings, but it did placde earlier fact-finding discussions into a more formal review structure with Levy, Ramboll, Township officials, legal counsel, and planning leadership present.

March 17, 2026

The minutes describe this as a follow-up meeting about Ramboll’s proposal and possible role in reviewing the Levy/Burroughs mining application. Most of the discussion focused on process and scope, including Ramboll’s budget, wetlands/ecology review, agency coordination, review of prior Township materials, and how communication would move through the Planning Commission. The meeting also discussed the proposed high-capacity well and drawdown testing, but it does not appear to introduce major new technical findings.

March 4, 2026

The minutes describe this as a meeting to review Ramboll’s proposal and inform Ramboll that the Township intended to select them as the lead consultant for the Levy/Burroughs mining review. Most of the discussion focused on process, including Ramboll’s scope of work, itemized pricing, possible use of other experts for certain review areas, communication protocols, attorney review, and future scheduling. The meeting also touched on prairie fen concerns, Dr. Monfils’ possible involvement, and the proposed aquifer drawdown test, but it does not appear to introduce major new technical findings.

February 16, 2026

The minutes describe this as an interview with Dennis Stacherski about possibly helping manage the Levy/Burroughs review process. The discussion was mostly about organization: keeping track of documents, timelines, consultant reports, and communication between the people involved. This meeting does not appear to add new information about the proposed mine itself.

The minutes describe this as an interview with appraiser Craig Fuller about possibly reviewing the property value study submitted for the Levy/Burroughs mining application. The discussion focused on whether nearby homes, haul routes, mine operations, timing, and buyer perception could affect property values. The meeting does not appear to provide final conclusions, but it does discuss a possible outside review, including scope of work, reporting, public presentation, scheduling, and conflict disclosures.

January 16, 2026

The minutes describe this as a meeting with Dr. Michael Monfils from the Michigan Natural Features Inventory about possible expert input on prairie fens and other sensitive natural features related to the Levy/Burroughs mining review. A related scope of work asked for a science-based report explaining how changes in groundwater levels, flow, connectivity, and temperature could affect prairie fen ecosystems, rare species, and habitat conditions. The meeting does not provide final conclusions about the proposed mine, but it shows the Township was considering additional ecological expertise to help frame what environmental reviewers should examine.

January 15, 2026

The documents describe this as a kickoff meeting for the Fact-Finding Committee’s review of consultant proposals related to the Levy/Burroughs mining application. The meeting materials focused on process: how committee members should independently review Ramboll and Fleis & VandenBrink, use the evaluation worksheet, submit comments, and avoid discussing preferences before a later group discussion. This meeting does not appear to add new technical information about the proposed mine itself, but it does show how the Township was trying to compare consultant options and organize the next step in the review process.

November 25, 2025

The minutes describe a meeting with Agate Harbor and Pangea Environmental about how their review would fit into the larger Levy/Burroughs mining application process. The discussion focused on using their mining and technical experience as a second-level review to help identify gaps, weaknesses, or unanswered questions in the applicant’s materials and other consultant work. This meeting does not appear to add new findings about the proposed mine, but it explains how these consultants were expected to help challenge and double-check the technical review process.

November 21, 2025

The minutes describe this as an interview with Ramboll about a possible role in reviewing the Levy/Burroughs mining application. The discussion focused on Ramboll’s experience with groundwater, contamination, ecology, air quality, noise, reclamation, climate-related impacts, and how the firm would handle missing information or unanswered questions.

November 19, 2025

The minutes describe this as an interview with Atwell about a possible role in reviewing parts of the Levy/Burroughs mining application. The discussion showed that Atwell’s strongest area was wetlands, habitat, and natural resource review, while other areas like groundwater modeling, traffic, noise, property values, and geotechnical work would likely require subcontractors or other experts. Overall, the meeting shows the Township was considering whether Atwell could serve a narrower, specialized role rather than act as the main consultant.

The minutes describe this as an interview with Fleis & VandenBrink about a possible role in reviewing the Levy/Burroughs mining application. The discussion focused on the firm’s experience with groundwater modeling, contamination concerns, wetlands and habitat, traffic safety, noise, dust, reclamation, public communication, and long-term monitoring. The meeting shows the Township was considering FV as a broad technical review firm that could evaluate multiple parts of the application and help explain findings to the public.

November 17, 2025

For residents, this meeting is significant because it documents a direct discussion with the applicant about missing or incomplete information in the Levy/Burroughs mining application. Topics included berm phasing, views from nearby homes, stormwater, dust and noise information, groundwater modeling, geological cross-sections, private well records, drawdown testing, reclamation details, traffic, landscaping, wetland setbacks, and possible groundwater concerns related to nearby Superfund sites. The minutes show that the next major applicant submittal was expected to focus heavily on groundwater, traffic, phasing, screening, and other technical details requested by Township staff and consultants.

The minutes describe a fact-finding meeting with Triterra Environmental about possible environmental review of the Levy/Burroughs mining application. The discussion covered wetlands, natural features, prairie fen protection, groundwater and Superfund concerns, dust and air quality, noise and vibration, tree removal, bat habitat, and possible off-site impacts. The meeting also shows that residents and Oko Environmental raised questions about indirect impacts, contamination testing, expert witness experience, and whether additional specialists would be needed for groundwater, air quality, and ecological review.

September 25, 2025

The minutes describe a fact-finding meeting with Township consultants Mike Wilczynski and Brian O’Mara about what information was still missing from the Levy/Burroughs mining application. The discussion included groundwater, geology, private wells, traffic safety, dust, noise, vibration, property values, reclamation, wetland impacts, prairie fen concerns, and the need for stronger supporting studies. The meeting shows that consultants were beginning to identify major technical questions that would need further review before the application could be fully evaluated.
