EPA Begins Review of Rose Township Dump Superfund Site – Public Comments Encouraged

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced its seventh five-year review of the Rose Township Dump Superfund site, located at 1065 Demode Road in Rose Township, Oakland County.

Illegal waste disposal began at the site in the 1960s, with an estimated 5,000 drums of waste deposited across approximately 12 acres of the property. These activities resulted in soil and groundwater contamination.

Cleanup efforts began in the early 1990s, and a groundwater extraction and treatment system continues to operate at the site today.

What is a five-year review?

EPA conducts these reviews to evaluate whether cleanup measures remain effective and continue to protect human health and the environment.

As part of this process, EPA is inviting residents to share information, observations, or concerns regarding site conditions. This is an opportunity for community members, particularly those with concerns about groundwater contamination or nearby private wells, to communicate directly with the agency.

Public Comment Deadline: April 15, 2027
