The ‘Pause’ & What it Means

Understanding the “Pause” on the Levy/BMC Mining Application

October 21, 2025

There has been growing confusion among residents about what the “pause” on the Levy/BMC mining application means for Springfield Township. The term “pause” applies only to the Planning Commission’s formal review of the application. It does not mean that the proposal has been withdrawn, dismissed, or set aside indefinitely.

During this period, township officials and independent experts are continuing their work behind the scenes to review materials already submitted by the applicant and identify missing or incomplete information. The goal is to ensure that, once the Planning Commission’s review resumes, the application is administratively complete and scientifically sound.

Supervisor Ric Davis has engaged a professional review team, including Special Counsel Jerry Fischer, hydrogeologist Brian O’Mara, and geologist Mike Wilczynski, to evaluate the technical aspects of the proposal. Their task is to ensure that the township has a thorough, professionally interpreted record before any formal decisions or recommendations are made.

Local residents, including members of STEP (Springfield Township Environmental Protectors) and Oko Environmental, have been invited to observe meetings, ask questions, and stay informed throughout this process. The township has maintained that these fact-finding sessions are part of its ongoing commitment to transparency and due diligence.

In short, the “pause” does not stop the work—it ensures that when the review process resumes, it will be based on complete data, expert analysis, and a clear understanding of the potential environmental and community impacts.

This statement has been verified by the designated Township contact for public communication, Supervisor Ric Davis on October 20, 2025. Supervisor Ric Davis is aware that resident members of the fact-finding meetings, including Oko Environmental LLC, relay information from these sessions to the public and has consistently communicated the importance of maintaining transparency and public participation throughout the process.
