There are private residential wells missing from Michigan’s Water Well Viewer or may not be accurately mapped. An incomplete well inventory could result in nearby properties being overlooked when the area for baseline well testing is considered.
Oko Environmental is asking residents near Levy’s Ormond Road property to check Michigan’s Wellogic database as soon as possible. Please check whether your active household well appears in Michigan EGLE’s Water Well Viewer and whether the mapped location and well record appear to be correct. (Note: You do not need an account to use Wellogic.)

Accurate well information is essential for identifying the private wells surrounding the proposed mine and for ensuring that future studies, monitoring, and data collection are based on a complete and reliable picture of the area.
Why Accurate Well Records Matter
Identifying nearby private wells is important for more than baseline testing. The Michigan Geological Survey uses Wellogic water-well logs as subsurface geologic data when mapping aquifers and aggregate resources.
In its March 2024 status report, the Survey said that more than 40% of Wellogic wells reviewed had incorrect locations and noted that some aquifer-type information can also be unreliable.1
That is another reason residents should verify that their well appears in the Water Well Viewer and is reasonably mapped to the correct location.
A missing or misplaced well could affect:
- who is identified for potential baseline testing;
- the apparent number and distribution of nearby private wells; and
- the subsurface geologic picture being built from well records.
Your well record is more than a dot on a map. Please check it and report any missing or inaccurate information to Oko Environmental as soon as possible.
